Transport Fares To Be Increased By 40% From January 17th

Transport fares in Ghana have been unstable for a while now especially when it rose to its climax in 2021 where the increment was put in to implementation several times due to the hike in fuel prices.

In a new release that has surfaced online from the Transport union regulatory bodies, the transport fare in Ghana are said to see an increment impl of about 40% which comes into effect on Monday 17th January 2022.

According to statements by Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) and the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) in the last quarter of 2021 there was the need for the government to give a standardized transport and fuel price which will not be affected by any increment in fuel prices for a while.

In this regard the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana (C-GAG) has announced in a press release on 10th January stated that transport fare will see a 40% increment implementation from January 17th.

The association stated that the increment is influenced by several factors including surge in fuel prices at the pump, increase in vehicle prices, hike in price of spare parts and lubricants which are all major necessities for their operations.

The union stated that they understand the economic situation in Ghana now but in order to keep its members in business they saw it necessary to call for such an increment.
